THOMAS ONG may be starting work on a new Ch 8 drama, but it could be his last one for a while.
Fans of Ch 8 actor Thomas Ong will be disappointed to know that the drama he’s currently filming, 229, will be his last TV project for the forseeable future. The 49-year-old, whose contract with Mediacorp expired in March, will be taking a break from showbiz to travel.
In 229, Thomas plays a 50-year-old man who has to relive the same day over and over again (Think Groundhog Day). The drama, which also stars Aloysius Pang and Hong Ling, will air in the second half of the year.
“It’s a complex and mentally taxing role,” Thomas tells us. “But I took it on as it’s different from the other roles I’ve played.”
There are few actors who can be considered a guaranteed ratings bet like Thomas. His 2014 drama Three Wishes, for example, attracted an average of one million viewers, making it the most-watched Ch 8 dramas that year.
