Negative effects of LARGE BREASTS
Bona|January 2020
If you are going for a breast procedure, many people assume that you are doing so to enhance your appearance. But, that’s not always the case as most women take this step due to suffering from lifestyle and health issues caused by the size of their breasts.

Negative effects of LARGE BREASTS

Breasts are considered large based on the woman; her size, body shape and preference. Having large breasts is not as fun as many assume; associating it with sex appeal. Carrying the extra weight can come with a lot of serious health issues such as fatigue, migraines or headaches, deep dark bra-strap grooves, rashes beneath the breasts (known as intertrigo), skin infections as well as chronic back, neck and shoulder pain. According to plastic and reconstructive surgeon, Dr Vaneshri Chetty-B, the breast can become chronically painful as well. Postural changes can develop over time, and in some cases, tingling sensations (neuropathy) in the upper extremity can occur.

THE PSYCHOLOGICAL IMPACT

Large breasts can also negatively impact daily activities and functioning. Dr Vaneshri shares that many patients are embarrassed and self-conscious of their size. “They often complain about feeling awkward at the gym and unable to find fitting gym wear. This makes regular exercise difficult, therefore creating a vicious cycle of weight gain.” Courtney Stanbury from Cape Town was embarrassed of her large breasts and desperate for a solution. It wasn’t until she went to see her general practitioner for yet another headache that the discussion of finding a plastic surgeon took place. “My breasts were not only large, but uneven, too. One was a G-cup and the other an F-cup. So, finding a bra that fitted was a nightmare, and when I did, it would be ugly. Finding fitting clothes was also near impossible. Everything was too tight over my breasts, and I would end up with oversized clothes to cover up.” She also suffered debilitating headaches and backache. “I struggled to stand for long periods, and developed bad posture from hunching over to accommodate the weight.”
