The singer worries she’ll never find long-lasting romance after failing to make it work with Liam Payne
Her close friend admits it’s “impossible” not to like the One Direction star
Expert agrees she now needs a break from men
She’s endured heartache in the spotlight before, seeing her first marriage to Ashley Cole crumble amid cheating revelations in 2010, and citing her second husband Jean Bernard-Fernandez Versini’s “unreasonable behaviour” as the reason for their 2015 divorce, following a two-year marriage.
And after her shock split from boyfriend-of-two-years Liam Payne – father of her 20-month old son Bear – in June, Cheryl, 35, sensationally revealed last week that she could happily stay single forever, insisting, “I have zero – I tell you, zero desire to start up a new relationship.”
Sources previously revealed past issues with the couple’s age gap, Liam’s loose lipped comments in interviews and his flirtatious behaviour with other women on stage. But Cheryl told pals her split from Liam, 25 – who she also claimed last week was the only man to stay faithful to her, though her ex JB later denied this claim, insisting “I didn’t cheat on her” – left her crushed. Now pals believe Cheryl’s anxious that if she couldn’t make it work with him, she couldn’t with anyone.
The source says, “Following her split from Liam, Cheryl was defiant that she wanted to move ahead and stay positive. But as the months have gone on, the reality that things didn’t work out has started to sink in. As she’s been promoting her new music, she’s been asked about Liam and the split and it’s forced her to revisit it. Cheryl really wanted her romance with Liam to work, and despite niggles and rows in the romance, she really felt a lot of love and happiness with him.
