Searching for the right care home for a loved one can be a daunting and emotional task, so here are some of the key aspects to consider before you choose

Home Is Where The Heart Is

Coming to the realisation that a loved one requires residential care is both an emotional and challenging task, and one that should not be taken lightly. With so many aspects to consider, it can seem extremely overwhelming.

Considering the personality and care needs of the individual, as well as involving them in the process of choosing the right care home as much as possible, is absolutely key. For instance, for a loved one living with dementia, it will be necessary to look at care homes with the resources to meet these requirements.

Pat Brown of Dementia UK’s Admiral Nurse Dementia Helpline says resources and plans need to be in place for changes in health. “Families often choose care homes because they can also offer the person with dementia access to activities and social support that they would otherwise be unable to have,” she says.
