Paraphrasing the first man on the moon, we can say that the first-ever FLYX Filmfare OTT Awards is a small step on Filmfare’s behalf to appreciate the giant stride taken by the entertainment industry in the OTT space. For close to seven decades, Filmfare has been honouring excellence in cinema. Over the years, we've extended the ambit to include South, Marathi, Bengali and Punjabi cinemas as well. We've also included short films recently. Now, when the interest in web-based content is on the rise, it was only natural that we would turn our attention to OTT. The coronavirus pandemic had stemmed the flow of life as we knew it and brought it to a trickle. One thing that did much to uplift our mood as we grappled with the mental chaos was the OTT content. Viewers needed something solid, something relatable, something that packed an emotional punch. And shows like Paatal Lok, The Family Man, or Aarya fitted the bill. The OTT shows were both our escape from reality and escape into reality as most mimicked real-life situations.
