Forget dancing – these days The Nolans are in the mood for… cruising. The famous singing sisters have reunited for the first time in years for a new show that sees them set sail onboard a luxury liner, travel Europe and have a whale of a time.
Anne, Maureen, Linda and Coleen – who all happen to be single – will star in The Nolans Go Cruising, in which they’ll dine and date on the high seas, as well as rehearse for a special one-off performance of their biggest hit.
“To be honest, it was one of the best things I’ve done,” Coleen, 55, tells us when we dial-up for the obligatory Zoom chat with the sisters. “There wasn’t a day I didn’t love.”
It’s a far cry from 2009, when they fell out spectacularly over 69-year-old Anne’s exclusion from their huge reunion tour. She and Coleen, in particular, were hit hard by the fallout and didn’t speak for four years, until the death of sister Bernie, who passed away in 2013 from breast cancer.
As the lead singer of the group, as well as an acclaimed actress and all-round brilliant lady, Bernie’s death left a void in the lives of the siblings, who shot to fame in the late 70s. The loss forced them to re-evaluate things, but more bad news was to come when Linda, 61 was diagnosed with incurable cancer in 2017, 11 years after she went into remission from breast cancer. With the devastating prognosis at the back of their minds, they didn’t hesitate when asked to do this show, although Coleen had her doubts. “I didn’t want to do a show that could have ended up jeopardising our relationships,” she admits. “No programme is worth that.”
