Gary Hollywood is known to millions as hairdresser Dino Doyle in the award-winning sitcom Mrs Brown’s Boys, but he faced heartache last year when he was axed from one of the two Christmas specials, prompting him to exit the show.
The fall-out between him and creator Brendan O’Carroll came after a difficult few months during which Gary’s brother passed away and his son Ollie arrived four weeks premature.
Gary and his wife Cherylanne faced a heart-wrenching wait as their baby battled jaundice and doctors tried to get his body temperature to the correct level.
“It was a scary time,” says Gary. “He’s coming on in leaps and bounds now.”
When we join the family at the beautiful Gleddoch House Hotel in the Scottish countryside, Gary, Cherylanne and Ollie are on fine form, having settled back in his home city of Glasgow after living in Lanzarote for seven years.
Here, the actor opens up on the “toughest year of his life”…
How are you finding life back in Glasgow, Gary?
Great, especially as it’s been sunny, which is rare for Glasgow. I like to think we brought it with us from Lanzarote.
Why did you move back?
