REMEMBERING A HERO: ‘WE'VE LOST A SENSE OF WHO WE ARE SINCE MY DAD PASSED AWAY'

We all felt an overwhelming sense of sadness when the incredible Captain Sir Tom Moore passed away in February, but nobody feels the loss of the national hero greater than his family, including his daughter Hannah Ingram-Moore.

The 50-year-old was heartbroken to have to say goodbye to her father when he died following a battle with pneumonia and coronavirus.

And when we speak with Hannah, although her heart is heavy, she still feels immense pride for her dad, who raised almost £33 million for the NHS by walking 100 laps around his garden.

“We felt like the world felt that loss with us,” she explains. “It was a surprise and a shock to all of us.”

Captain Tom, who was knighted last July by the Queen, lived with Hannah, her husband Colin, and their children, Benjie, 17, and Georgia, 14, before his passing.

Here, Hannah reminisces about the joys of growing up with Captain Tom as a dad, his famous pals and how wonderful Her Majesty was during their meeting...

Hi Hannah. How have you coped with the loss of your father so publicly?

It’s difficult, but because we’re so close as a family, we’ve managed it between us. We’ve all had our moments. When someone is the very fabric of the building you live in it’s really hard, but he’s never really gone. He remains everywhere and I hear his voice all the time on the TV or radio.

What led to your dad living with you and your family?
