The Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge stepped out together at COP26 in Glasgow last week. The quartet, dubbed the “new fab four” after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped down as senior royals, have been putting on a strong united front as the Queen rests following medical advice.
According to royal expert Katie Nicholl, their appearances at the United Nations Climate Change Conference shows the House of Windsor is sending a clear message. “Ever since the departure of the original fab four, Harry, Meghan, William and Kate, which we all know didn’t end up being that fabulous, there’s been an effort to show there is unity at the heart of the royal family. A new fab four has emerged,” she says.
Prince William, 39, his 72-year-old father Prince Charles, and their wives, Kate and Camilla, have been showing solidarity as the direct successors to the throne and have been working more closely together, Katie adds. “They’re coming out in force to support the Queen. We are certainly going to see more of that as the Queen is now scaling back engagements.”
All four attended a reception for the Sustainable Markets Initiative and winners and finalists of the first Earthshot Prize Awards at the Clydeside Distillery. Kate, 39, dazzled in a blue Eponine gown and was seen laughing as she offered a jar of bugs to her husband, who looked dapper in a navy suit. The pair smiled for the cameras with Prince Charles and Camilla, 74, and later shared a photo on social media.
