Being the first twin songstress’ in the industry, Sukriti and Prakriti Kakar have conquered hearts with their melodious voice. And with hits like Kar gayi chull, Katra Katra and Hawa Hawa, they have surely got the country grooving to their tune. The gorgeous twins get candid with Rujuta Thete about their life, career and music choices.
You two hail from a musically inclined family. Did that inspire you both to pick music as a profession?
SUKRITI: We have been very fortunate that music has been such a major part of our lives. My mother has been teaching music for over 20 years and our elder sister, Akriti has been a playback singer for the last 15 years now. We didn’t have to look far for inspiration while growing up as it resided right in our own house! There was music that organically became a part of us even before we chose it as our profession.
PRAKRITI: Apart from these early family influences, we are, to a large extent, both self-taught and trained singers. We consider ourselves fortunate enough that our talents, passions, and dreams all led to a single path and a single path alone - music!
What is your favourite music genre?
SUKRITI: All my hit tracks over the years have been peppy dance numbers so in a lot of ways that has become “my genre” today. But I’ve never believed in restricting myself to just one specific genre.
PRAKRITI: I made my Bollywood playback debut with Tutiya Dil a lilting love ballad so I prefer singing romantic numbers.
How does it feel to be the first twin songstress’ in the music industry?
SUKRITI: We take a lot of pride in being the only twin sisters who sing and perform live acts together. There’s so much chemistry and comfort performing and working together with your best friend. Together we form an amazing team and complement our respective skill sets.
PRAKRITI: It’s an indescribable feeling, it is a major game changer for us. It brings us a lot of attention, work, recognition, and adulation. There are fan clubs across the social media that have dubbed us as “SuPra”. Now, isn’t that super?
