Hilary Duff is exhausted, though you’d never know it. As she talks about her new life as a mum-of-three, the actress’ face lights up. But her smile is quickly replaced by a furrowed brow and apologetic expression when she’s interrupted by an alarm. “That’s my timer to go feed my daughter. I’ll be right back!” she says, excusing herself as she hops off the living room sofa of her Beverly Hills home.

Duff’s life these days is full of joy – and plenty of juggling. In March the former child star, 33, and her husband, singer-songwriter Matthew Koma, 34, welcomed daughter Mae James, who joins their older daughter Banks, 2, and Duff’s son Luca, 9, from her first marriage to Mike Comrie. “I have help, but babies just want their mum. Even Luca is still like, ‘Mum, Mum, Mum.’ Mum cooks the thing the right way, and Mum packs the bag the right way. It’s crazy,” Duff says. “It’s a learning curve to throw a newborn into the mix. A lot of people have been like, ‘That third kid really gets you.’ And they’re right!” As she prepares to take on her next big role – in a How I Met Your Mother spin-off – when her hit series Younger ends this month, Duff is relishing this rare time off. “I’m so in love with all my kids,” she says, “and I love this mayhem.”
