Reflecting on her initial connection to Keith Urban, Nicole Kidman recognises that perfect timing played a leading role in their love story. “I would probably say that two very lonely people managed to meet at a time when they could open themselves to each other,” she told Vanity Fair in 2007. “We were a mixture of frightened and brave.”

When they first crossed paths, Kidman was finding her feet as a mega movie star while wrestling with feelings of isolation. Country singer Urban was struggling with excesses of quick success. Together, they found their footing, both as individuals and as one of the most loving and enduring celebrity couples. Celebrating 15 years of married life, their spark hasn’t fizzled.

“With Nic, we have a passionate, curious and hungry togetherness,” Urban has told The Times. “She has infinite dimensions that keep her fascinating to me, and in the way we live our lives, she could be my high school girlfriend.”

HOW THEY MET

The A-list power players first bumped into each other in 2005 at the G’Day USA gala, which honours Australians in Los Angeles. Kidman didn’t think Urban liked her when they first met. “I’m like, ‘You didn’t love me at first sight, you didn’t notice me,’ and he’s like, ‘Yes, I did but I just didn’t let on,’” she told Ellen DeGeneres in 2013. “But we kind of met and then about four months later he called me.”
