Baby Steps To A Great Body

BRINGING a new life into this world turns your own world upside down. Apart from a mountain of new responsibilities, the physical and psychological changes drain the little energy you might be left with. But, a health and fitness regime is very crucial if you want to get back in shape. Just step into the right diet along with a healthy lifestyle. “Make sure that you don’t jump on it at a breakneck speed,” cautions Child Advisor Dr. Meenakshi Ahuja, who is a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist with Apollo Cradle Royale, Delhi. “Fitness is very important, the sooner you get on it, the better it will be. Though there are no standard guidelines when should you start working out post-delivery, it is wise to take proper rest for at least 40 days. The idea is to keep the pace steady as things have been moved and stretched inside,” shares Dr. Ahuja. “Start with a brisk walk, even if it’s inside your home. Kegel exercises are also recommended as they help strengthen pelvic floor muscles. Crazy and crash dietary fads are not recommended. In fact, a lactating mother should increase her calorie intake by 550 units. Once they start with their workout routine, they should switch to a diet rich in protein and low in carbohydrate,” she advises.
