Goats Of The Argan Trees

Goats Of The Argan Trees

In the Semi-arid desert regions of Southwest Morocco grow Argania or Argan trees, a very ancient species of trees that date back to the Tertiary period.

The Argan trees grow 8-10 metres high and can live for 150-200 years. It takes the Argan tree 50 years to mature and send out fleshy yellow-green fruits that ripen in the month of June.

In the harsh and dry climate of Morocco, every part of the Argan tree has its uses.

The leaves are fodder to animals, the wood is used as fuel and building material and the deep roots retain water and help to prevent soil erosion and the spreading out of the arid Sahara Desert.
