The pub group ensuring community hubs thrive in our counties’ towns and villages celebrates 10 years of success
REGULAR readers will know how disappointed we are to see pubs closing across our counties – particularly those which were local gathering spots in the past and provided somewhere close to go out to dine or meet friends for a catch-up and pint. It’s one of the reasons we’re particularly fond of Oakman Inns, founded vey much against the tide a decade ago by entrepreneur Peter BorgNeal, with a first pub at Tring.
Since then, their concept of the ‘modern public house’ has been successfully transforming both historic and modern buildings and offering a high standard of food, drink and service. The group has grown to 20 inns, stretching up to the West Midlands. In Bucks there’s Beech House, Beaconsfield; Dog & Badger, Medmenham; The Akeman Inn, Kingswood; and the Betsey Wynne at Swanbourne. In January they will be joined by another following the The Beech House concept of casual dining built around Mediterranean flavours, in Hill Avenue, Amersham. This project has created 60 jobs.
