Learning to overcome a lifelong fear of birds isn’t easy.
I have had an enormous phobia about birds dating back to my childhood—I am now 63 years old. It began with chickens when I was a kid but has expanded over time to include anything with feathers. I tend to be much braver when I am with others, however, especially my grandchildren. In an effort to overcome this fear, I have started challenging myself to take close-up pics of as many birds as I can, and to learn about them as well. The eagle has been a favourite of mine for a long time, however difficult they are to find where we live. It is much easier to get a shot of a hawk, which has become my second favourite bird. I don’t limit myself to just taking pics of birds, I have also visited local aviaries with my grandsons, and walked into cages filled with parrots to feed them.
