In some circumstances, it is inevitable that a beloved relative needs to move to a care home. They may be suffering with a combination of physical or mental health issues, which require intense or prolonged care and specialist nursing, and the family simply can’t cope. It’s an incredibly difficult decision and many people struggle with the idea – and some even suffer from guilt.
Choosing the right care home for your family member can be incredibly stressful, but the most important thing to do is to research your chosen care homes very carefully. There are signs to look out for when it comes to making your choice. Make sure you are regularly asked for your views about the quality and choice of the food and other aspects of the home, and give relevant feedback to ensure the care given is appropriate to your family member. One key aspect, though, is discovering how much you can be involved in daily life and decisions.
