IT’S said that the most important time in the gardening year is late winter through to early spring. That’s when the foundation for summer is set.

If something isn’t planted or sown by the end of spring, it gets harder or more expensive to do later in the year. Leaving grass growing too long before you start cutting creates difficulties, and weed control becomes nigh-on impossible once the devils get away.

But the one thing you can be sure that will hamper your gardening this year is doing yourself an injury right now.
