Val isn’t the only one keen to track down garden snails

GARDEN snails (Cornu aspersum) cause almost as much heartbreak for the gardener as slugs do. In damp summers they graze throughout the day, generally sliding up and down linear foliage like that found on crocosmias, hemerocallis (daylilies), kniphofias (red hot pokers) and irises. I constantly frisk these plants during the growing season and remove them. I also have brown-lipped snails (Cepaea nemoralis), which prefer broad-leaved plants, and a few white-lipped snails (Cepaea hortensis).
