A soundproof entertainment room where she reads her scripts and watches Hollywood’s best on a state-of-the-art home theatre system, and a spa room with an installation that reminds her of where she came from while kicking back... Parineeti Chopra offers a rare peek into her home life to Sandipan Dalal.

A custom lampshade, made from a 1900’s industrial-style hand-crank ice crusher machine, stands gracefully next to a state-of-the art home theatre system. The opposite wall houses a fresco painting that depicts covers of famous English novels from the Victorian era. Real Bakelite Telephone lamps grace a whitewashed exposed brick wall in the dining area of this modern house with an antique flare. The place starts to make a little more sense when you remind yourself that its owner is Parineeti Chopra, known for bringing an authentic, individualistic flavour to every role she’s played on-screen. For the first time ever, the actor draws back the curtains on her 3,400 sq-ft suburban Mumbai apartment with French windows that open onto the Arabian Sea. In a chat with Femina, she tells us all about her happy space.
Do you remember the day when you signed on the dotted line for your new home?
It was a big milestone for me. From the time I moved to the city, I have been hearing things about houses being very expensive here, that being able to buy a property is a big deal. I was beaming with pride when I had the paperwork done, and then got emotional when I broke the news to my parents. My brother and I had kept it as a secret for a month till we invited our parents to Mumbai. All we had told them was that we were taking them to a special place. On entering the house, I told them, “This is my house,” and they were shocked and happy.
What drew you towards the apartment?
I went house-hunting with my agent for months before finding this place. Frankly, it was not within my budget but when I entered this house, it just felt like home. I grew up in a huge bungalow in Ambala (Haryana), and even though my apartment is not as big, it gets a lot of breeze, sunshine, and, most importantly, has an unobstructed sea view.
