‘I HAVE A HUGE RESPONSIBILITY’
fbb Colors Femina Miss India World 2018 Anukreethy Vas talks about her journey and inspiration
She’s both bubbly and poised, and instantly declares her love for food—especially if it’s biryani and a steaming cup of coffee. Currently learning the linguistics required to settle in Mumbai, Anukreethy Vas is a person who has a singular focus on the goal at hand. We speak to the young pageant winner.
How did fbb Colors Femina Miss India happen?
I accompanied a friend to the auditions and ended up participating. Once I was selected in the zonal round, I decided to up my skills. I wanted to make the most of the journey; I wanted it to be a learning experience, and it was.
What was the most memorable part of the pageant?
It was my connection with the other contestants. These girls were like my family, with whom I shared everything.
In what way has winning the pageant changed you?
It has made me more responsible. After all, I’m only 19, a happy-go-lucky person, and used to take things as they came. But now, I am an influencer who needs to set an example.
The one person you look up to the most?
My mom. She is the strongest person I know. She is always smiling, and her smile is what gets me going. She’s been through a lot, and has emerged stronger with every experience.
What’s the one change you want to bring about in the country?
In India, gender inequality still exists for transgender people. I want to abolish these biases. I am deeply connected with this issue since a friend in school was transgender and she kept it from everyone, including her family. The day her family learnt about it, they just abandoned her.
