Some people get better with age. Karisma Kapoor embodies that statement. Nikita Sawant catches up with the elder Kapoor daughter, who saw superstar dom in the ’90s and seamlessly crossed over to being a mom, brand ambassador, sometime writer-sometime-RJ and an entrepreneur, without a hair out of place. Here we learn how she keeps her chic style, weighing-scale-defying fitness levels, and constant quest to learn new things intact.
It’s one day before Taimur Ali Khan Pataudi is born. One day before a few-hours-old infant takes Twitter by storm. Who’d know seeing aunt Karisma Kapoor sail into Mehboob studio for Femina’s cover shoot, her mouth quirked up in a small, sweet smile? The professional is at work now and only that one request to leave the sets early to see her sister in the hospital gives away her anxiety. Hailing from the Hindi film industry’s first family, the Kapoors, Karisma’s cinematic repertoire—from commercial successes like Raja Babu, Raja Hindustani and Dil Toh Pagal Hai to critically acclaimed ones like Fiza and Zubeidaa—is proof enough that she carried on the legacy well in her career spanning almost a quarter of a century. Today, she endorses brands, is a social media influencer and shares her life’s experiences through writing and RJing, apart from being mom to her two kids, Samaira and Kiaan. Not to mention the #StyleGoals she gives us all the time. Edited excerpts from the interview:
On having courage and a positive attitude
The courage to live my life the way I want comes from my strong value system and belief in myself. When it comes to my career, I work very hard to reach my goals and never compromise. Personally, I have always tried to see the positive in every situation. My positivity keeps me going.
On her kids and Kareena’s child
It is very important to keep your children grounded. In today’s times it is tough, but I am a very private person and try and keep my kids away from the public eye. They have a very normal childhood. And, I'm sure, Kareena’s child will have one too.
