The breakthrough new treatment for ALS — also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease — is called edaravone and slows the progression of the killer degenerative disease.

Scientists in Japan found ALS sufferers who received edaravone saw the decline of their daily functioning slow down compared to those on a placebo.
