The ruffled royal consort packed his bags and moved out of Buckingham Palace — and into a lowly cottage 115 miles away — after a massive fight with his wife, Elizabeth, just weeks after celebrating their wedding anniversary, insiders tell GLOBE!
“They’re leading totally separate lives,” reveals a royal courtier. “They go weeks without seeing each other!”
Their marriage exploded in August when Alzheimer’s-ravaged Philip retired from public life.
“He begged Elizabeth to abdicate so they could enjoy their final years alone together,” says the courtier.
“But she told him, ‘I can’t give up the throne now. Who is going to succeed me?’”
