“They’re leading totally separate lives,” reveals a royal courtier. “They go weeks without seeing each other!”

Their marriage exploded in August when Alzheimer’s-ravaged Philip retired from public life.

“He begged Elizabeth to abdicate so they could enjoy their final years alone together,” says the courtier.

“But she told him, ‘I can’t give up the throne now. Who is going to succeed me?’”
