For Lenny Kravitz it’s an unconventional day on the rural Bahamian island that he calls home. Normally “I wake up, eat some fruit from my garden, take a bike ride, make some music,” he says of the six months a year he spends on Eleuthera, a world away from his other home in Paris. “Here it’s mellow. The big decisions are where and what you’re going to eat.” But on this day the star sits trying to coax a terrified 7-year-old boy named Jeffery, whose gums have completely grown over his front teeth, into receiving a life-changing dental procedure. It’s day two of the yearly free clinic that Kravitz and his dentist, Dr. Jonathan Levine, established on the island in 2015, and the temporary facility is jam-packed with locals seeking treatment. With the island’s high poverty rate, “there are so many people here that need care. I wish I could do this all the time. At this point in my life, it’s all about service.”
