Nathalie Emmanuel is having a moment. The 30-year-old actress barely had time to mourn the gruesome beheading of her character Missandei in the final season of Game of Thrones— “I basically cried my eyes out,” she says—before taking on another high-visibility role, this time a lead. She plays a political adviser on a journey of self-discovery in Hulu’s new 10-episode miniseries Four Weddings and a Funeral, conceived by Mindy Kaling and based on the 1994 Hugh Grant romcom. “When I saw that Mindy was making this project, I knew that it would reflect the world that we live in,” says Emmanuel. “The world is just so divisive, and there’s so much hate. I’m so proud of the fact that we’ve made this thing. Diversity and inclusion have a huge impact on a young person. It’s something that I can relate to personally as a woman of color.”
