From the writer of Skins comes a psychological thriller exploring the darker side of university life
Heading off to university can bring as many challenges as it does fun new experiences, and BBC3’s psychological thriller Clique certainly explores a darker side to campus life.
The thought-provoking, six-part drama is set at a university in Edinburgh, where an elite clique of high-achieving young women have a powerful influence over their fellow students.
‘Cliques are a constant in a woman’s life, whether you are in one or out of one, and I wrote this in response to my own years at university,’ explains the show’s writer, Jessica Brittain, who previously penned episodes of E4’s hit teen drama Skins.
‘I met some amazing, interesting and competent women there, but I felt on the outside, like a fish out of water. Now, a decade on, there seems to be even more pressure on girls going to university to turn up as fully-formed women with five-year-plans, and when that doesn’t happen it is a shock.’
