How mass shootings have brought untold terror to the streets of the Us
Caren Teves and her husband, Tom, were on holiday in Maui in 2012 when they received the phone call that every parent dreads. It came from their son Alex’s girlfriend, Amanda, who had terrible news.
The young couple had been at a movie and there had been a shooting. Alex had been rushed to hospital, but she didn’t know how he was.
Within the next few hours, the Teves family discovered the horrible truth. Alex, 24, and Amanda had been watching The Dark Knight Rises at their local cinema in Aurora, Colorado, when a gunman dressed in bulletproof clothing had opened fire on the audience, killing 12 people and injuring 70 others.
Alex had pulled Amanda down and lay on top of her. He had been killed shielding her from the bullets.
