In 1991, Lincolnshire Police were called to the children’s ward at the Grantham and Kesteven Hospital by staff who were concerned about the number of babies who’d experienced sudden illnesses that couldn’t be explained.
Initially it was thought they could have been caused by a hospital bug. But when police looked into the case of five-month-old Paul Crampton, they found that something much more sinister was going on.
It turned out that Paul, who’d been admitted with a chest infection, had suffered three hypoglycaemic attacks that could only have occurred if he’d been maliciously injected with insulin.
