Idris Elba Turns Kickboxer for a New Discovery Documentary

Idris Elba is no stranger to playing tough guys – from hard-bitten DCI John Luther to superherogod Heimdall in the Thor films. So when the Hollywood star recently announced plans to take up kickboxing, you could have been forgiven for thinking he was tuning up for a new movie role.

In fact, he was about to do something far more unusual – turn himself into a pro-standard fighter so that he could go three rounds in a professional kickboxing match.

It’s all part of the actor’s lifelong ambition to fight professionally, as he explains in Idris Elba: Fighter – a new three part Discovery documentary that follows the actor’s year-long bid to compete in the ring.
