Never one to overspend, yoga teacher Laurie McAllister, 26, has always thought of herself as being good with money. For years, she even resisted the lure of having a credit card to avoid the temptation of impulse buys.
But eventually she decided to apply for one – and was pleased to be accepted straight away. Laurie knew a good credit score could make all the difference if she wanted to apply for a loan or mortgage in the future, so she was determined to stay within her limit and pay her bills on time.
What she never anticipated was becoming a victim of financial fraud. But when Laurie fell for an email scam, criminals were able to use her card to finance their lifestyle. We asked Laurie to explain what happened – and how we can all avoid similar scams…
