Why don’t babies sleep through the night? How do they learn language? Do mothers and fathers bond with their newborns in the same way?
Thanks to groundbreaking research, these and countless other questions are answered in Netflix’s intriguing new documentary series Babies. The six-parter follows 15 families from all over the world during the first year of their little ones’ lives. They include two UK-based couples – Rachel and Adam, and their baby Willow, and Isaac and Josh, and their newborn Eric.
‘You’ll never look at a baby in the same way again,’ says series editor Sara Brailsford, as she chats to TV Times. ‘They’re not little blobs who don’t do anything. They’re enormously successful learning machines, who are learning from the moment they are born.’
Here, Sara talks us through some of the extraordinary scientific revelations we can expect in each enlightening episode…
