NEW MON-WED, 9PM, GOLD (BOX SET, SKY BOX SETS & VIRGIN TV ON DEMAND) COMEDY

A quarrelsome chip-shop manager is at the heart of Gold's brand-new, star-spangled sitcom Newark, Newark.

Inspired by the adolescence of writer and actor Nathan Foad (Bloods), the three-parter is set in a working-class market town and sees Morgana Robinson (The Windsors) play exhausted matriarch Maxine, who is turning 40 single, having split from her layabout husband, Terry (Gavin & Stacey star Mathew Horne).

With spirits at her birthday barbecue already dampened by a downpour, Maxine's teenage son, Leslie (newcomer Jai Hollis), decides the family gathering is the perfect opportunity for him to come out as gay.

Meanwhile, Terry gatecrashes the party and is intent on winning his ex back with the help of his meddling mother-in-law, Pauline (Coronation Street star Beverley Callard).

Here, Beverley, who turns 65 on 28 March, and Morgana, 39, tell us why they're perfect to play mother and daughter...
