There are many sinister forces at work in BBC1’s fantasy epic His Dark Materials, but one person we can always count on to do the right thing is adventurer Lee Scoresby. In this week’s penultimate

episode, intrepid aeronaut Lee (played by Hamilton and Mary Poppins Returns star Lin-Manuel Miranda) and enigmatic shaman Jopari (Andrew Scott) are busy trying locate the powerful subtle knife, which could protect Lee’s young friend Lyra (Dafne Keen) as her mysterious destiny beckons.

But, as they head towards the strange world of Cittàgazze to find the knife-bearer, unaware that he is Jopari’s son Will (Amir Wilson), danger follows in their wake.

Here, Lin-Manuel, 40, tells us why, despite the many perils his character faces, this is one of his favourite roles yet…
