Antiques Roadshow

SUNDAY / BBC1 / 8.00PM

When a show about a London auction house touring the West Country aired in 1977, no one at the BBC could have dreamt that a programme in which people brought family heirlooms to be valued by experts would still be on our screens 40 years later.

Yet, the Antiques Roadshow has become a quintessentially British institution, synonymous with stately homes, earnest experts and the occasional surprise valuation...

‘The show is essentially the same as it has been for 40 years and it’s still hugely popular,’ says Fiona Bruce, 53, who has hosted the series for ten years.

This week, the new series kicks off with a 40th anniversary special from Castle Howard in Yorkshire.
