Helen Skelton tells us about celebrating British farming, live in sunny Yorkshire

Helen Skelton is hoping to make hay while the sun shines as she returns to Cannon Hall Farm in South Yorkshire to present a week of live shows celebrating the wonders to be found in the countryside over the summer months.

‘What really gets me buzzing is live TV!’ enthuses Helen, 37, who along with co-host Jules Hudson will once again be in the thick of the action at the Nicholson family farm near Barnsley, run by brothers Rob and Dave.

Here, in an exclusive interview, Helen tells TV Times what is set to make Summer on the Farm extra special…

Are you excited to be bringing viewers summer stories from Cannon Hall Farm?

Yes, being from a farming family myself, what I love about this show is that it’s celebratory and acknowledges how hard British farmers work – we live on a glorious little island and this programme showcases what we’ve got. This is the show viewers have come to love, with a summer spin on it!

What are the potential challenges of hosting a live show that involves animals?

Oh, the animals aren’t the problem – it’s stopping Rob, Dave and everyone else from getting the giggles because we all get on really well. Sometimes stuff happens with the animals and, obviously, we’re talking a lot about new life and animals giving birth, so there will be topics that make you smirk like a teenager. But, this is live now, so you can’t cut anything out in the edit!
