Last year, while normal life was still on pause due to the coronavirus pandemic, Atonement director Joe Wright decided he had to get back behind the camera. “Having been in lockdown for so many months, I just felt like I wanted to make a film about how people connect and fail to connect.”
That film turned out to be Cyrano, a reimagining of Edmond Rostand’s 1897 play, about a sharp-witted poet and soldier (Game Of Thrones star Peter Dinklage) who’s drawn into a love triangle. He’s smitten with his friend Roxanne (Haley Bennett), but she only has eyes for dashing new cadet Christian (Kelvin Harrison Jr.). So, he decides to help his handsome-yetinept-with-words rival woo her instead.
