Mary & Fred They're Worlds Apart

At their first appearance together in months, the Danish royal couple look far from happy

Standing on the grand balcony of Marselisborg Palace last week, Prince Frederik and Princess Mary smiled and waved to the Danish public in the same way they’ve done year after year. However, this time, the physical distance between them had royal insiders speculating once more that their almost 15-year marriage is under serious strain.

Celebrating Queen Margrethe’s 79th birthday, Mary and Fred appeared to be simply going through the motions as they stood with their four children to greet the royal fans.

While they’re usually affectionate towards each other at public family events, on this particular occasion, the couple looked noticeably strained and distant.

Only highlighting the distance more was the fact Mary was overly affectionate with their children, cuddling daughters Princess Isabella, 12, and Josephine, eight, and choosing to stand close to sons Prince Christian, 13, and Vincent, eight, during the celebrations.
