Just like his character alcoholic screenwriter Ben Sanderson, Oscar winner Nicolas’ life appears to get more twisted at every turn, especially since he traded in Los Angeles for Sin City.

The 55-year-old cult screen figure reached a new low last week, when he was filmed drunkenly ranting in a Nevada courthouse before applying for a marriage licence with his girlfriend Erika Koike.

They married at the Bellagio casino the same day despite his claims that she would “steal his money” – but Nicolas had it annulled four days later, claiming he was too drunk “to understand the full impact of his actions”.

Despite being born into Hollywood royalty – his uncle is world-renowned director Francis Ford Coppola – his increasingly bizarre behaviour is causing film offers to dry up.
