Seven months – that’s how long ago it was that Harry and Meghan announced they were stepping down as working royals and going solo. And what a seven months it’s been.
Moving from Canada to Los Angeles. Celebrating Archie’s first birthday. Trying to figure out where to go, what to do and who to partner with as they forge their way in a world cast into chaos by the coronavirus.
Of course, they’re doing it all in the utmost luxury, ensconced in an $18 million (R306m) mansion belonging to Tyler Perry, one of America’s most successful stars.
But by all accounts, there’ve been teething problems, especially as far as Harry is concerned. And, as always with these two, there’s drama galore.
HAPLESS HARRY
The 35-year-old prince is suffering from a bad bout of homesickness, friends say.
In a rather short space of time Harry has turned his back on the life he knew, the family he loved, the military appointments he got so much pleasure from and the country of his birth.
“And it hasn’t been easy for him,” a friend recently told London newspaper The Times.
“He had a much more established life in England and he doesn’t really know anyone in LA. I imagine he might be feeling a bit of what Meghan felt over in the UK – lonely and directionless.”
The roles have indeed been reversed. Meghan (38) is happy to be back in her own hometown, reunited with her mother, Doria Ragland, and many of her close friends.
Harry, however, is battling.
The pandemic has reminded him that his father, Prince Charles, and his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, “aren’t going to be around forever”, a source says.
