To some people he’s hilarious and edgy, one of the best satirists around – a guy who goes where no one else dares and doesn’t care who he offends in the process. To others he’s crass, cruel, confronta tional and just plain ridiculous.
And there are no prizes for guessing which camp former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani falls into now when it comes to Sacha Baron Cohen.
Giuliani (76), personal lawyer to US president Donald Trump, found himself making headlines for all the wrong reasons after being set up in the latest movie by the British actor, writer and comedian.
The movie marks the return of Sacha as Borat Sagdiyev, the buffoonish Kazakh reporter who comes to America and rips off everything from the food to its people and politicians.
In the new movie, Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, he’s accompanied by his teenage daughter, Tutar.
His mission: to ingratiate his country with the Trump administration by presenting his child as a gift to “vice-premier” Mike Pence.
Giuliani, however, is also in Borat’s crosshairs – and in the days before the film was released on streaming service Amazon Prime, footage made its way online that had the former New York City mayor fuming.
Tutar (played by 24-year-old Bulgari an actress Maria Bakalova) poses as a TV reporter who interviews Giuliani. She suggests they continue their conversation in a hotel bedroom over a drink and Giuliani doesn’t need much persuasion.
The reporter removes his microphone and Giuliani lies down on the bed.
“You can give me your phone number and address,” he tells her, as his fiddles with his shirt before his hand slides down into his trousers.
Just then a large, hairy Borat in lacy pink lingerie bursts into the room.
