Sonakshi Sinha On Love, Life And Her Idea On Feminism
Cosmopolitan India|November 2016

We go behind the gloss of the ‘quintessential Bollywood heroine’, and get the lowdown on her fitterthan-ever avatar, her idea of feminism, and what defines beauty for her.

Sonakshi Sinha On Love, Life And Her Idea On Feminism

The first time you meet Sonakshi Sinha, you’ll probably peg her as someone who’s decidedly ‘composed’. And then, almost without warning, she’ll say something that’ll make you snort-laugh. That’s Sonakshi for you— one of the most polarising figures in the film industry today. She doesn’t just have the house divided on the kind of movies she’s built her career on (masala films that critics disapprove of, but have crowds thronging to theatres), but also on her sartorial picks and her weight. But Shotgun Junior loves that her plan for her life is “no-plan”.

Growing up in a film family, you’d expect Sonakshi to be a movie buff, but the apple couldn’t have fallen further from the tree. “I didn’t watch too many films growing up. In fact, I still don’t,” she says. From studying fashion to working as a costume designer on her mother’s film (Mera Dil Leke Dekho in 2005), the shift to acting happened organically. “After college, I began losing weight, and that’s when Dabangg was offered to me,” she says, adding, “It was like I was dumped into the deep end of the pool and being asked to swim. But I believe in going with the flow, and looking back at things, everything’s worked out pretty well.”
