Matthew M. Williams’ tenure as Creative Director of Givenchy may only have started in June 2020, but the designer has already stamped his signature on the storied fashion house with his unique aesthetic and bold vision. In the newest campaign for the brand’s FW’21 season, Williams’ fresh take on the Givenchy woman and man is solidified, with striking and bold images shot by rising photographer Thibaut Grevet in his first partnership with the house. Building on the ideas conveyed in Williams’ first season (with a campaign shot by Nick Knight), these current images are reminiscent of the product-centric ads of the ’90s but feature a diverse cast of stunning models.
Lit to evoke a chiarascuro mood, the campaign highlights the house’s key looks and accessories in a way that displays and obscures at the same time — in a now-you-see-it-now-you-don’t style. Drama, glamour, modernity and power are all conveyed beautifully against a dramatic black setting, while the standout pieces of the season —soft puffer jackets, sculptural knitwear and architectural bags — are revealed in all their semi-futuristic glory.
