Living in a climate with constant high humidity, how do we beat the heat and look fresh-faced all day?
It may be common knowledge that in cold weather, there is a need to prevent skin from becoming overly dry. However, we may be so attuned to the local temperature that it does not come naturally to us that humidity begets special skincare concerns.
First off, high humidity causes us to perspire easier. One should also know that such climate drys out the skin and hence causes it to secrete more sebum. The oil that is naturally produced by our skin is a good bodily protective mechanism that serves to moisturise it, except excess sebum leads to oily skin and breakouts. In humid weather, the lethal trinity of perspiration, sebum, and dead cells on the skin surface band together to clog pores and aggravate skin.
To tackle skin issues associated with humidity, one should recognise that oil levels of the skin need to be balanced, dead skin cells need to be regularly eliminated, and any form of skin aggravation need to be prevented.
REGULATING OIL LEVELS
As previously mentioned in our April issue, men’s skincare regime should be kept to a minimum three steps of cleanse, tone, and moisturise. However, if one has particularly oily skin, it is advisable to swap out one of the steps with a product that contains a mattifying agent for use in the day as we secrete more oil from physical exertion. Biotherm Homme T-Pur Anti-Oil & Shine cleanser, toner, and moisturiser contain the mattifier, mineral perlite, to help absorb excess sebum to maintain a fresh appearance.
