Dior has released its first major fragrance in 20 years. Welcome to the new world of Joy.
If ever there were a fragrance that deserved its name, it would be Parfums Christian Dior’s new release, Joy by Dior. This sparkling, woody floral scent has been designed to make the wearer (and those around her) smile.
Launched in September, Joy by Dior marks the fashion house’s first major fragrance release in two decades, and it’s a radiant addition to its fragrance stable.
“We wanted something different from J’Adore and Miss Dior,” says Yann Musquin, marketing director for fragrances at Parfums Christian Dior. “We wanted something simple but with details that would bring luxury.”
Dior perfumer-creator François Demachy started his olfactory journey for the scent with the name. “I was fortunate to know its name from the beginning – and what a name!” he says. “Short and lively yet not affected, [Joy] is open to all possibilities.”
With such a name you might imagine a scent that’s floral and whimsical, conjuring a summer morning. And it is, but Joy is also grounded with a certain sense of luxury and sensuality. “It’s a floral fragrance but with woody and musk tones,” says Demachy, who reveals he began his two-year creative process for the fragrance with the sweet, intoxicating note of patchouli.
