Traditionally, men visited barber shops for their grooming needs. However, overtime, with men becoming more aware and concerned about their beauty and finding grooming fashionable, salon and spa owners found that with creating unisex spaces came potential revenue. This unisex salon trend helped salons and spas widen their client base without having to create separate outlets catering to men and women – a move that meant more profit with close to zero additional investment!

But somewhere along the way to realizing hidden potential, unisex salons made mistakes. What they didn’t take into account was the fact that the salons need to appeal to clients of both sexes equally. A salon catering to women cannot turn into a unisex salon overnight. Creating a unisex space which attracts men as much as it does women means giving it thought, planning the space so as to avoid discomfort among clients and taking into consideration everything from the signage to décor, facilities and every last detail. Quite simply put – it means setting a whole new salon space altogether!
