It’s hard to stay away from art when it runs in your blood. Inspired by her grandfather and illustrious artist Jehangir Wazifdar who was known for his fake-proof oil paintings, Michelle Poonawalla is now carrying forward the legacy by dabbling in various art forms. What’s more interesting is she is using the knife, instead of the paint brush, to create magic on canvas. Excerpts from a tete-a-tete with the style icon and mother of two children.
How did you find yourself inclined towards art?
I believe one is born as an artist. The practical and theoretical study of art broadens one’s horizon but creating a particular art form comes from within. I grew up around art during my formative years and later went on to graduate with honours in interior design.
From where do you get all the inspiration?
I draw inspiration from everyday life, my grandfather and his style of work, my travels and also from the digital world. Every day is a new experience for an artist. It all depends on how you process those experiences on canvas. The success of an artist lies in making art connoisseurs read a painting, just like a book, and not just make a representational copy of life around us.
