Don't Stop Catching

We join Middy and Bag ‘em Matchbaits man Jake Robinson for a day of non-stop action!

 Don't Stop Catching

The success of a day on the bank or a keenly contested match is usually measured in terms of how many fish we catch, or in match terms of course by how much they weigh. So, it goes without saying that if we can catch fish all day then all the pre-session expectations are going to be realised.

Middy and Bag‘em sponsored Jake Robinson likes catching fish and demonstrates his approach to a typical snake-lake peg, and shows us a routine that on most days will generate bites and therefore result in fish finding the net all day long.

Being realistic, however, is an important attribute. As we move away from the margin mayhem and surface fishing of the summer months a good appreciation of the water temperature and conditions on the day will be an area that will need closer scrutiny.

Jake’s method today on Moors Lake, at the popular Cudmore Fisheries in Staffordshire, has skipped these margin and shallow tactics of summer and streamlined his fishing to the central track, the deepest part of the swim, and the far bank in about three feet of water, where just about whatever the weather, at some point in the day the fish will feed with confidence.

“By just focusing on these two areas I will stand a better chance of achieving bites all day,” Jake explains, “and it’s also easier to pick up on the moods of the fish. These moods will undoubtedly change throughout the session, and being able to read these signs is one element necessary to keep bites coming.”

BAIT AND FEEDING

“That’s my theory sorted, now the hardware and bait for the day.

“In respect of bait it is very much a mixed maggot and pellet approach as the fish in these commercials like both, and I normally consider the pellet to be my primary choice for the carp and the maggots as a catch-everything bait and a real backup to target the abundance of silver fish in the swim.
