On 21 August this year, the company revealed its first commercial air taxi, the Volocopter2X, the fourth-generation electrical take-off and landing aircraft.
The piloted flight was skeduled to take place on 22 October at along the Marina Bay waterfront in Singapore, in conjunction with the 26th Intelligence Transport Systems World Congress in the city from 21-25 October 2019.
Designed to serve as an on-demand, inner-city vehicle, it can carry two passengers and their hand luggage. It's capable of an estimated range of 35km and an airspeed of 110 km/ph. Like previous models the VoloCity has 18 rotors, redundancy in all critical systems and a promise of low noise.
During that time Volocopter and Skyports showcased the world’s first full-scale air taxi vertiport prototype: the VoloPort. This infrastructure is a collaboration between Volocopter and Skyports to design and build a fullsize vertiport prototype of the type of infrastructure that urban air taxis and their passengers can expect to use in the future. The Proof of Concept flight was the result of the close cooperation between the Ministry of Transport, the Civil Aviation Authority Singapore, and Volocopter over the past several months following its announcement in September 2018.
Since the concept was first designed, the German company has developed three generations of aircraft and performed public flights most notably in Dubai in 2017 and during CES in Las Vegas in 2018.
