With Hotel occupancy rates plummeting as the infections have spread and most hotels remaining shut and out of business - the financial blow of COVID-19 has been immediate and painful. With the sector laying off thousands of employees; a loss of roughly five crore jobs has been estimated with the sector bleeding billions of dollars. And yet, in the midst of a public health crisis and a global pandemic, hospitality brand Royal Orchid Central, Bangalore, has been extending support and relief to its clients since the beginning of the nationwide lockdown in March. “Despite the widespread shutdown and travel restrictions, we never stopped our operations.
We continued to serve our longterm guests and had a few rooms occupied. We stayed positive throughout as a group, and decided to turn the vacancy into an option to support our guests and do our bit to ease the burden by repurposing our rooms as safehouses,” says Mr. Vikas Kulshrestha - Area General Manager of Royal Orchid Central, Bangalore.
